kpii on Aurora Gaming: “I have the final say in drafts”

Aurora Gaming coach Damien “kpii” Chok commented on the victory over Tundra Esports and the loss to Team Spirit in the playoffs during an interview at DreamLeague Season 29.
On the victory over Tundra Esports
Finally, I don’t have to stay up until 9 a.m.—it’s only 7 now. Much better.
We didn’t really scout them. When I was at Liquid, I used to watch our opponents’ gameplay, but now I’m more focused on the draft. I wait for the games to end and watch the drafts.
On the loss to Team Spirit
Part of it was the draft, but mostly it was the gameplay. Nothing special—we just played poorly, especially on the third map. We were evenly matched, even slightly ahead, but the next few minutes were a mess.
On helping the team after losing maps in close matches
I have two tasks: the first is to reset the players immediately after a map, without dwelling too much on what happened. If there was something important in the game, I might highlight it if I think it could help in the next match. The day after the match ends, I’ll share the notes I prepared based on the replay and quickly go over them with the players, because they don’t want to sit through a two-hour session.
On Drafts
I have the final say on drafts. I take the players’ opinions into account, but ultimately, it’s up to me to balance the ideas. Everyone on the team has a “loud” voice, and I need to strike a balance so that our draft works both on its own and against the opponent’s heroes. We can’t just pick everyone’s favorite heroes.
Aurora Gaming is currently facing Team Falcons in the lower bracket of the playoffs. The winner will advance to the next round, while the loser will be eliminated from the online tournament and finish in fourth place.
